Editor Six
Kimberly A. Gaetz
kimg

When a good editor has done their job, the writing shines through, not the editing. Ms. Gaetz is a thoughtful, authentic wordsmith whose goal is to amplify your voice, not her own. Kim graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Masters degree in Creative Writing. Her editing credits include a wide variety of genres including: Spiritual, Self-help, Business, Biography, Text, and works of Fiction for adults, young adults and children, as well as marketing and promotional materials for various clients and non-profit organizations.

A down-to-earth lover of words her entire life, Kim considers herself a Generation X success story. An avid writer and diarist in her own right, Kim is the author of a memoir book and numerous published articles, and is well known for her sense of wit and sense of irony, mirroring that of her favorite author, Dorothy Parker. Her personal interests vary greatly; from carefully toiling in her flower garden, to researching tattoo history and folklore.

Ken Kane

After teaching writing, literature, and cinema at a college prep high school in suburban Chicago for 36 years, Ken decided to retire and pursue a new career in editing and writing. These years of guiding student writers has sharpened his ability at spotting and helping correct the errors authors eventually face. Coupled with his literature background from University of Illinois, Ken has a sharp ?ear? for the language and is adept at leading authors to finding their own special voices.

Although most of his recent work has been involved copyediting and proof reading, Ken is capable to work in both substantive and developmental editing. Ken is a certificate candidate in editing at University of Chicago, having completed half of the required courses. His editing experience ranges from self-help books (including How To Have a Great Day Everyday) to chapters in a guide to hypnotherapy. He has written and edited articles for a Chicago land golf periodical and recently finished editing a book on genealogy and immigration to Canada for Mill City Press.
Between editing and writing projects Ken works as the pro shop manager at a local golf course and spends his free time golfing and fishing and reading almost anything he has nearby.

Laine Morreau
Photo Coming Soon.

Laine Morreau has over five years of editing experience in diverse areas. He started out at Dalkey Archive Press working on The Review of Contemporary Fiction. From there he went to Fiction Collective Two (FC2), where he worked almost exclusively on postmodern fiction. In 2006 he took a job in Chicago at Triumph Books, a Random House imprint, and has been in sports publishing ever since. During his career, Laine has also edited for American Book Review, The Spoon River Poetry Review, Context, Children?s Literature Association Quarterly, the Sinclair Lewis Society Newsletter, and several other publications. Though he welcomes all kinds of editing assignments, he has a passion for fiction.

Because of his strong familiarity with fringe fiction, Laine has a significant amount of experience dealing with dialectical variations, slang, and other nonstandard forms of written expression. It is his goal to preserve the author?s voice as much as possible in a given work, regardless of whether that voice is projecting standard English.

Laine lives in the city of Chicago with his girlfriend and a cat; they have wonderful times together and all know that they will look back on this period as their salad days.

Laine is generally reading more than one book at a time (right now it?s Borges, Ed Sanders and, well, the biography of John Belushi), which has forced him to devise an unnecessarily complicated system to govern the whens and wheres of reading each book. Laine is also a freelance writer and reviewer, though he can never find enough time to write as much as he would like. When he is not working, freelancing, or reading, Laine can be found digging through record stores, thrift stores, and garage sales looking for records to add to his already massive collection.

Marna Poole
Marna Poole

Marna Poole has been an editor of fiction and nonfiction manuscripts for nearly a dozen years. Her editing philosophy is simple?make the author look good. Marna?s expertise includes all types of editing, from basic line edits to developmental and substantive editing to ghostwriting. She is skilled at polishing a manuscript until it shines, even as she ensures that the author?s voice remains true.

She has worked with most genres of fiction?contemporary, mystery, horror, science fiction, young adult and children?s, romance, and historical?as well as such nonfiction topics as alternative healing, general health and well-being, education, self-help, parenting, kids projects, and women?s issues.

Her background also includes nine years as a K-8 educator, five years as the content manager of an alternative medicine Web site, and a few relatively unproductive (albeit extremely enjoyable) years as a singer in local coffeehouses and clubs.

In her spare time, Marna enjoys reading, playing the piano, trivia games, visiting the beach, and walking her dogs. In summer, she morphs into her true identity: mermaid (at least, she does so on the afternoons she spends swimming underwater).
